Ninety Days to Build
Ninety days is enough to change how you build
Not enough to master anything. Enough to change how you build, permanently. Chapter 16 of the book lays out the sequence, and it has become the plan I hand to students and first-time founders.
Days 1 to 7 — know where you stand
Three scorecards, done honestly. The FEES Assessment for value. The iSWAT Capability Scorecard for capability. The DVF+A gate for your current project.
Be honest, not generous. Do not skip the uncomfortable boxes — the gaps you find here determine where you focus next. Rush this week and you spend the following twelve practising the wrong thing.
Days 8 to 30 — run one full USER cycle
Pick one real project. Not a hypothetical.
Uncover. Design your research, talk to five real customers, write down their exact words.
Synthesise. Explore widely with AI-assisted concept generation, then converge. Fill in the FEES-to-Story Canvas.
Energise. Design one small go-to-market experiment. Run it. Measure it with metrics, not feelings.
Resonate. Design retention. Track the churn signals. Build the system that keeps people.
The goal is not perfection. It is to complete the loop once, from insight to impact, and feel what each phase is like from the inside. You cannot learn a process by reading about it.
Days 31 to 60 — build one bridge
The capability system lives in the spaces between the archetypes. Pick the bridge that addresses your weakest score.
- Strategist with Wizard: run every concept through a decision gate together.
- Wizard with Activator: translate your value blueprint into narrative.
- Activator with Technologist: map the touch points that power the experience.
- Technologist with Strategist: design the dashboard that tells you whether the strategy is working.
One bridge. One conversation. One shared document you both can act on.
Days 61 to 90 — automate one thing
Choose the recurring task that eats the most hours and design an AI-assisted workflow around it. Run it for two weeks. Review the output. Refine the prompts.
Then do it again
Return to the three scorecards from week one and fill them in again. The gaps will not have disappeared. They will be smaller. And you will know exactly what to do next.
Ninety days, one real business
Every one of the four capabilities needs a live project to practise on. For me that came from years of shipping — some of it inside companies that could absorb the mistakes, a good deal of it at my own expense. What I would have given for a structured first ninety days, with someone asking the hard questions on schedule.
userOS is built to give you exactly that. An AI Coach and four iSWAT agents let you run the ninety days on your own business rather than waiting for the perfect project to arrive. The Coach keeps you accountable to the plan — and notices when you have deferred the same decision three times. The capabilities stay yours. The calendar is what changes.
